Art in the making

I wanted to show my daughter this picture I took in Hawaii, so I am going to make that event a little more public than sending her an email. I find it interesting that we, as a global society, are becoming more open with what used to be considered private. We talk on the phone in public, blog about our days, twitter about the most inane things and put photos up for all to see of our family vacations.

Personally, I believe it is mostly a healthy thing, but I also don't think that many (especially the younger crowd) realize just how public it is and how embarrassingly universal it can get in the blink of an eye....

Anyway, this is one of the pictures I took while in Hawaii (when I was worried about the entire planet being gobbled up in a man made black hole - thanks again, Josheem). I watched for the entire drawing of this young lady (about an hour).

I was fascinated to watch art being performed in real time. To me, the piece of art is only a piece of the story. It is, of course, the most lasting piece but then again Picasso had a knack for making the performance and the lasting piece one and the same.

Does any body else get a pang in their stomach or a gasp in their lungs when they see something truly artistic?

I attribute that to the gap between what we expected to see/feel and the thing that the artist makes us see/feel.

And I can not tell you what art is but I can tell you when I see it.

Watching this artist perform left me with a bigger place in my mind for interaction with the world and I am in debt to him for that.

I don't know if the picture would be considered "Art" - remember, I think a particular cameo (on the side of this page) is Art, so I may not be a good judge - But I am willing to say that the experience of watching had an aesthetic quality that I would identify as Art.
